The Society
of Happiness

Societas Felicitatis book cover by Andrea Ferrerio

I. The book

A philosophical path toward happiness—and a more humane way of living.

Societas Felicitatis considers happiness as more than a private emotion: it is a question of how one lives, relates, chooses and participates in the life around them. With a deliberately philosophical and secular perspective, Andrea Ferrerio traces a path from the individual to society, the nation, the continent and the world.

The book does not offer a formula or a doctrinal reading. Instead, it engages deeply and independently with values associated with the teachings of Jesus—such as dignity, responsibility, compassion, freedom and care for others—through a secular philosophical lens. It invites readers to ask how a more conscious, balanced and humane way of living may be cultivated.

I. The philosophical path

Happiness is a way of living—and a shared responsibility.

The book develops happiness as a living architecture: starting with the individual and expanding through society, the nation and the continent toward a responsible vision for the whole world.

01

The individual

Personal renewal begins with conscience, inner development and the freedom to choose what is worthy. Here, the teachings of Jesus are approached in a secular and philosophical key: as enduring reflections on dignity, mercy and responsibility.

02

The society

A good society is shaped in the space between people—through mutual recognition, forgiveness, care, education and a commitment to justice that does not abandon the vulnerable.

03

The nation

A nation is called to turn shared values into institutions that protect liberty and dignity, widen opportunity and give citizens meaningful ways to participate in public life.

04

The continent

Across a continent, nations are invited to pursue cooperation, dialogue and a common civic culture that respects difference while seeking the good they can build together.

05

The world

The horizon ultimately becomes global: a world in which prosperity, peace and human development are understood as responsibilities that cross every border.

II. The journey

From the self to the whole world.

Happiness becomes possible when a person learns to see freedom not as escape from responsibility, but as the capacity to give form to a meaningful life.
Societas Felicitatis — a reading invitation

01

1. The individual

The journey begins with the person: inner freedom, self-knowledge, responsibility and the disciplined search for a life that can truly be called fulfilled.

02

2. The society

It then turns to society, where respect, compassion, justice and mutual responsibility shape the relationships in which people may flourish together.

03

3. The nation

At the scale of the nation, it asks how institutions and public life can serve dignity, participation, opportunity and a shared sense of purpose.

04

4. The continent

The continental horizon considers how neighbouring nations can cultivate cooperation, cultural understanding and shared responsibility beyond narrow interests.

05

5. The world

Finally, it widens the horizon to the whole world: a vision of human solidarity that treats the wellbeing of every people as part of our common future.
